The Powderbound season rental is up and running! For information on the cabin and how to reserve space, click here.

Rental and Lesson Subsidies - Jan 23, 2006

If you are heading up to the mountain and are planning on renting equipment or taking lessons, Powderbound will subsidize your costs! It's easy: simply save your receipt for the rentals and deliver them to our public folder in the ASSU (they will show you where it is). then just shoot alex (alexene@stanford.edu) an email letting him know it's there, and we will reimburse part of it.

The Fundraising Forms include the following forms:

Cabin Info - Nov 04, 2005

the COST for a full share in the cabin is $400. on TOP of that there will be a refundable security deposit of $100, bringing the TOTAL UPFRONT COST to $500. the club will make every effort to ensure a full refund of the security deposit at the end of the season, bringing your end-of-the-season cost to $400 per person. it will be our collective responsibility to ensure this return by taking care of the place and dilligently collecting guest fees when applicable.

we will still offer $100 4-packs as previously discussed, however there may be a limited number of these available. these packages will include 4 days of your choosing at the cabin, however full share holders will have priority access to beds and cabin signup. you will, however, have priority over people wanting to stay for single nights. please note that this offer will only be available now; once the lease begins we will no longer offer this deal and single nights will cost $30/night.

if you want to go in on the cabin, please email me (eliakim@stanford.edu) to apply and indicate specifically whether you want a $500 share or $100 4-pack. note that there are a limited number of shares (18), and i anticipate that not everyone who wants one will be able to get one, so don't delay in applying.

Kirkwood Season Passes, Final Instructions - Oct 30, 2005

i will be ready to submit our Kirkwood season pass applications as soon as the last few stragglers send in their forms--if you haven't gotten around to doing that yet, move it or lose it!

in the interest of time, i have made the necessary arrangements to begin collecting payments.

some of you included checks with physical copies of your applications--those will be torn up as you made them out to kirkwood, not powderbound. some of you provided credit card information with your applications--that information will NOT be used and will be erased from your applications. some people provided neither checks nor credit card information. all three groups, please pay close attention to the following instructions.

kirkwood is requiring payment for our group to be made in a single transaction, and so the club must collect funds from you directly and then submit a single payment for the group. you have two options:

1. pay by credit card: this is the preferred method and is most convenient for all parties, but it involves a 3% paypall transaction fee which you will have to absorb. to pay by credit card, you will use stanford's egroups web payment system. for those of you purchasing the $199 VALUE pass, go to http://egroups.stanford.edu/KirkwoodValuePass

for those of you purchasing $299 FULL passes, the link is:

http://egroups.stanford.edu/KirkwoodFullPass

2. if you would rather do some legwork than pay the 3% fee, the procedure is fairly simple. ONE, cut a check to "Powderbound" for either $199 or $299 as appropriate. TWO, deposit the check in the Powderbound bank account by going to the ASSU (second floor tressider). THREE, ask for a photocopy of the deposit slip and place the original in our public folder in the ASSU (they will show you where it is); keep the copy for your records--it is your ONLY proof of purchase.

that's it. once i get the requisite 25 applications and payments, i will send out a final email confirming the list of names. once kirkwood processes the applications, i will send out a liability form and instructions for sending kirkwood the form as well as a digital picture of your beautiful self. filling out the form and sending the picture in advance will allow you to breeze in and pick up your pass at the beginning of the season, rather than wait in the oh-so-long line for picking up passes. sweet.

if you have any questions, please re-read this email. if you still have questions, please re-read it again. if you still have questions, email me ;-).

peace and pow,

e

2005/2006 Season - Oct 4, 2005

here are some things we're working on for you this season:

1. subsidies on equipment rentals, lessons, and equipment tuning. planning to rent gear, get a lesson, or tune your own equipment? just let us know, keep your receipt, and we will cut you a check to reimburse you for part of the cost (stay tuned for more details as funding comes through). make sure to check in with jeff (jmichels@stanford.edu) beforehand.

2. discounts on gear and tuning. look for special deals from Boarder Nation in San Jose, CIT sports in Burlingame (20% of gear and 10% off tunes), and Skateworks (with multiple locations in the area, including redwood city and mountain view). more on this in the next few days, as well as deals from other area shops that are in the works.

3. kirkwood season passes. some of you already signed up for passes with me-- way to go! for those of you still considering it, i highly encourage you to go for it; at $199 it's an unbeatable deal. if you are interested, please fill out the attached pdf using adobe acrobat and send it to me. for those of you putting together your own groups of 4 for the quad pass, that's great, but please don't submit it on your own. i am trying to collect as many signups as i can and perhaps use our numbers as leverage to either drive down costs, negotiate for extending the college deal to recent alums of powderbound, and leverage our number of pass-holders to get us lodging and equipment deals. for details on the season pass at kirkwood, please see Kirkwood's flyer and form.

4. snowbomb tahoe cards. if you are not planning on buying a season pass to kirkwood but are planning on going up at least once, definitely hook up a tahoe card, which includes a free lift ticket to either kirkwood or subarbowl, as well as deals on rentals and tuning from various tahoe-area stores. check www.snowbomb.com for more info. to buy a card and get an extra freebee edge- and-wax tune, check out CIT sports in Burlingame 650-342-4560 and mention Powderbound (subject to availability) .

5. powderhound club sponsorship card. are you hardcore--a powderhound? plan on doing a lot of riding and keeping your gear tuned? contribute to the club by buying a sponsorship card. i am working on getting several area shops and mountains to offer a free tune, rental, or steeper discounts to members who buy a $20-$30 membership card from us. think of it as our very own tahoe card. i will be sending out more info on this as i negotiate with vendors, but the hope is to make opt-in membership cards that will be worth more in terms of goods/services than members pay for them while helping the club raise money. if you would be willing to contribute $20-$30 to the club in exchange for such a card, please email me with the subject "powderhound" so that i can gauge the level of interest as it will involve a good bit of effort to set up. the idea has a lot of potential, but only if members are willing to invest in their season.

6. season cabin rental. we are looking into the possibility of renting a cabin for the season, but time is running out. if you are interested (and by interested i mean committed--absolutely--to spending $400-500 for a season share), please email me and melahn@stanford.edu with the subject cabin. please don't send an email if you are not serious-as-a-heart-attack about going in on a cabin--organizing a rental is a tremendous amount of work, and to make it happen we need to know exactly where we stand and how much money we have to work with. that said, i encourage you to think big: kwood season pass and (hopefully) a share in our cabin.

7. welcome BBQ or bowling expedition. we are in the process of applying for funding for the quarter, and as soon as it comes through we will announce one or more events geared primarily towards getting people together and having a good time.

8. help out! a few members have stepped up and volunteered to help out with projects (thanks tim, ira, and ying!), but the more people who take initiative, the cooler this season will be. got any cool ideas, hit me up. no ideas but a desire to help out, hit me up. things i'd love to see members spearhead: logo gear (any good artists or photoshop gurus out there to help design a cool powderbound logo?); organizing a fundraiser; and especially people willing to find leads on cabins (anyone have a south lake cabin that the club could rent out occasionally?) and organize multi-day trips for group member; calling ski/snowboard companies and trying to arrange for special promotions/pro-forms. you have the power!

jeff and i are really committed to making this season a spectacular one for our entire membership and are hard at work negotiating deals, applying for funding, and overseeing the cabin-search. look for updates on these initiatives over the coming weeks. looking forward to meeting new members and reconnecting with old ones--lets work together to make this a sweet season!
